Its 2018 girls let’s say goodbye to relaxed hair and hello to natural hair. Many people don’t know the harmful effects relaxer does to your hair, and also to your body as well. Did you know that one of the ingredients used in relaxers is the same thing that is being used for drain cleaners? The same ingredients that is being used to unclog your sink is what is being applied to your hair. When your hairstylist applies a relaxer cream to their hair they are stripping your hair of its natural protein. Doing this can cause serious consequences. Once your hair loses its protein, it becomes dry and brittle. This may be why some people experience hair loss and feel like their hair is not growing.

Never be ashamed or embarrassed to embrace your natural curly hair. Having your hair natural is one of the healthiest things you can do for your hair and body. Studies show that many women response was that they have been applying relaxer cream to their hair for so long that they feel like they are unable to care and deal with their curls. I see this as an excuse. Everything thing in life is a challenge. So why not take on the challenge of caring and dealing with your natural hair? Both you and your hair will thank you.

Here are some natural hair tips.

1. Hair Porosity

The first thing you would want to know is your hair’s porosity. Porosity refers to your hair’s ability to absorb and retain water. They are three different types of hair porosity.

High

High porosity is mostly common in the natural hair community. High porosity hair is looked at as damaged hair caused by heat, relaxer, color, or it can also be genetic. If your hair is high porosity, you should find a leave in conditioner always remember to keep your hair hydrated.

Medium

Medium porosity is considered normal and healthy. This means that your hair allows moisture to come in and also exit at an appropriate pace.

Low

If your hair is low porosity, that means your hair has a hard time taking in and releasing moisture. If your hair is low porosity, you should use hair products for natural hair that are liquid based. Also, use heat to reduce moisture.

2. Know your curl pattern

When you know your curl pattern, you are able to decide what kind of natural hairstyles can be done in your hair. Knowing your curl pattern can also help understand why your hair reacts a certain way.

3. Protective Hairstyles

The third tip is that protective hairstyles for natural hair is your friend. Using a protective style is important because it can help stimulate hair growth. Protective styles give your hair a break from the constant pulling from combing your hair. Here are some styles you can try out. Lastly, love your natural hair. No matter how kinky or curly your hair is, embrace it.
